Challenge: HealthEast Care System, serving the Twin Cities East Metropolitan area, had the objective of developing a best-in-class Employee Referral Program. They wanted a program that would enhance and brand the current materials, stimulate interest among their own personnel and result in quality referrals and strong retention rates.

Solution: The project began with the establishment of benchmark data from HealthEast employees, market surveys and NAS research. Through meetings with HealthEast Workforce Planning, HR Representatives from all business units and corporate marketing staff, NAS developed an internal program, creative concept and materials that reflect the organization's high-energy environment. The program theme (Share Your Passion for Caring) and look were designed to capitalize on - and invest in - the system's overall brand and marketing campaign.

Results: This successful program has produced impressive results:

  • More than 195 employees have been hired so far through the current program, with an average cost per hire of only $631.
  • With HealthEast's applicant tracking system, reports indicate that employee referrals continue to be HealthEast's number one recruitment source.
  • Print advertising expenses have been reduced significantly.
  • Best of all, the retention rate for employees hired through the ERP is a remarkable 18% higher than for regular hires.
