A Streaming Success Story
The NAS Regional Director in Chicago and I met with Tracie Sayre, Employment Manager at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois, to discuss some new approaches to nurse recruitment. At the time, St. John's nurse vacancy rate was 15% and Tracie was working hard to shrink that number. After careful consideration of the organizational environment, hiring expectations and budget restrictions, we decided to put together a streaming video and CD. Immediately, NAS developed the video concept, St. John's employees were filmed, and the three-minute video came to life. Today, Tracie is still pleased with the results.
“I was simply amazed,” she says, “at how quickly NAS learned our culture and created this wonderful video. They really hit the nail on the head. Our nursing vacancy rate went from 15% to 2% and our website now gets over 1000 hits a month.”
Besides posting the video on St. John’s Hospital’s website homepage, Tracie had a mini CD version produced. "It’s really totally cool,” she says. “Our nurse recruiter can take his laptop to career fairs and show the CD. Then he hands out our brochure with the CD inside.”
Based on the success of this initial career video project, and St. John's Hospital's needs for additional rehab professionals, NAS is in the process of developing a rehab specialty career video to target both experienced and recent graduates.
A Worthwhile Investment
More and more HR recruiters are using video technology to solve the challenge of nurse vacancies. According to a Wharton School of Business National Research survey, there is a 51% greater understanding of any subject presented through video. The survey also states that prospects are 72% more likely to purchase a product or service when video is used. This translates directly to job candidates' positive response when introduced to the facility through a virtual tour. The video allows them to become familiar with the personalities of staff members, take a peek at the surrounding city, and hear a list of benefits that can be played back as many times as needed.
The advantages of video technology are numerous. First, you have the ability to portray your organization exactly as you want job seekers to experience it. It won't infringe on their time because they choose the time and place to watch it. And, unlike many other media, you can expect nearly 100% viewership.
