• 75th Spotlight: Jennifer Henley – Vice President of Client Services

Posted by NAS Recruitment Innovation on November 17th, 2022

As part of our 75th anniversary, we’re highlighting some of our tenured talent and sharing their insights. We would love to introduce Jennifer Henley, our VP of Client Services who has been with NAS for 21 years.

When did you join NAS and what do you remember most about your first days here?

I joined NAS in February of 2001. I was an account executive and I worked mostly in sales. I covered three states and I had to drive around to see prospects and clients. I remember being fresh out of college, driving a lot and going through a lot of MapQuest printouts. On September 11, 2001, I was in a client meeting in Washington D.C, six hours away from home when the terrorist attack occurred. I ended up leaving NAS shortly after for a year to work for an ad agency. It wasn’t long until I returned to NAS in 2003 to manage one of the 42 offices they had at the time.

What was the recruitment industry like at that time and what did you do in your role at the start?

It’s weird for me to think about how I’ve been a part of a third of NAS’ life. We used to fax and phone everything in day-to-day business. Clients would pay around $25,000 to have an ad in the newspaper and we never had issues finding business. I used to sell these newspaper ads and it was so easy to make a sale then because companies needed the support.

What is the biggest change in recruitment marketing over the course of your career with NAS?

The use of technology has changed the game in recruitment marketing, and it continues to do so over and over again. When I first started, e-mails were not even a tool we utilized. Today, you have to use technology to successfully recruit candidates. You need better awareness, better information to share and technology that offers solutions. These are all huge changes that NAS has adapted to. NAS is fortunate to have such a rich history because of how agile we are. We leverage technology to our advantage. I remember when e-mail blasts were the new huge and popular product. NAS has always progressed our solutions, our team, our processes and our offerings. We continue to adapt and improve from where we were 10 years ago, 20 years ago, even 75 years ago.

How has your role/career evolved? How has the technology associated with your job evolved?

When I first came back, I was focused on overseeing the sales operations of my region. I took over states slowly but surely. At one point I was overseeing the sales of the entire east coast. About 7 years ago, my job was restructured to oversee the services team instead. Client Services covers most of our employees. Whenever there is slack to fill, I step into the roles until we can fill the position. Overall, I help ensure that our clients are getting the best, most well-rounded and most helpful guidance from our company.

Can you tell me about one of the most interesting or enjoyable challenges you took on in your career at NAS?

The most gratifying thing in my career here thus far would have to be the people I work with. Both on the client side and on our team. Having the privilege to manage a team like this is so enjoyable because I get to influence and work with extremely intelligent people. Over my years, I have worked with some of the best and brightest people in the industry. When I began this job right out of college, I had no idea how much I would learn from the variety of clients we have. I have learned from some of the smartest people, and they continue to teach me every day. Although I have only been with NAS, I have worked with hundreds of companies, and it has been so rewarding.

What is most exciting about your role and the industry today? Where do you see NAS (and your role) going in the future?

NAS has and will always be progressive and purposeful. Every decision we make, internally and for the clients is always purposeful. We are thoughtful and strategic with our footprint and our message. We will continue to stay progressive and continue to embrace technology to stay on the leading edge for our client partners.
